Did Ringo Starr ever see or play with the band?

Ringo certainly never played with the Quarrymen.  And to the best of everyone’s memory (including Ringo’s!) he never saw the Quarrymen perform.  The first recollection among the four lads who formed the Beatles was that they first became acquainted in Hamburg – by which time the Quarrymen had renamed themselves the Beatles.
