The New Quarrymen CD
The Quarrymen's new CD -"Songs We Remember" was launched at the Liverpool Beatles Convention on Sunday 29 August 2004 and it has now been released in the UK by Sony-BMG.
Recorded at Liverpool's Parr Street Studios in April 2004, the new CD was a result of the Quarrymen's trip to Japan in September 2003 when they were invited to appear in Tokyo and Osaka with one of Japan's top bands, the High-Lows. Sakito Shirabe, the High-Lows bass player who performed with the Quarrymen in Japan, appears with the Quarrymen on bass on the CD. Pianist Mike Neary also guests on some of the numbers.
The CD features 15 tracks, many of them of particular significance in the history of the Quarrymen, including "Twenty Flight Rock" - the song which got Paul McCartney into the Quarrymen; "Come go with me" - the song the Quarrymen were singing on stage in 1957 when Paul first saw John perform; "Puttin' on the Style" and "Baby, Let's play house", recorded by Bob Molyneux at the St Peter's Church Dance that same day; Paul and George’s "In spite of all the Danger" and "That'll be the day" recorded at Percy Phillip's studio in 1958 and the Lennon-McCartney number "In my Life".
The 12 page CD booklet boasts an introduction by Beatle Biographer (and Quarrymen Biographer) Hunter Davies, some great photos of the band in Liverpool by Kozo Fukuoka and the words to all the songs.
